Computational Analyses of Operational Events

Within operation of NPP a number of operational events occur. In order to properly investigate the event (e.g. due to the limited scope of available operational measurement) there‘s usually a need for additional analysis. Deterministic safety analyses may be used as a tool for obtaining a full understanding of such events and should form an integral part of the feedback from operating experience. The analyses of operational events requires the use of a best estimate approach, because conservative assumptions could distort the real picture in terms of cause/consequence and could even lead to false conclusions.

In the area of DSA application to analyse operational events we offer following services:

• Preparation of DSA of operational events:

o models of complete NPP units validated according real plant data
o including shutdown states
o auxiliary and BoP systems (essential service water, cooling water, raw water, etc.)
o best estimate approach

• Analysis of event root cause including operating personnel actions according Accident Management Guidelines
• Identification of safety issues and their assessment
• Analysis of the severity of possible consequences in the event of additional failures
• Recommendation of technical and organizational provisions

TES experts have long-term experience with preparation of such analyses. For this purpose, an extensive validation of our NPP unit models is performed using data from NPP commissioning and operational transients from AOO (Anticipated Operational Occurence) category like RCP trip, closure of TG valves, load rejection, etc. Our models include detailed models of regulation, control, limitation and safety systems and are fully qualified for performing such kind of analyses.
